The launch of the Modern Warfare 2 beta saw fans drop into Infinity Ward’s latest release for the very first time. The small slice of the full build showcases a new Gunsmith alongside a new arsenal of weapons for players to master.

Following the end of the opening beta weekend, the developer shared its feedback gathered from the community. In addition to concerns regarding target tracking, Infinity Ward reveals its logic behind the mini-map which only shows red dots when a UAV is active.

With several players wanting red dots to appear when a player fires their weapon, fans have slammed the developer for ignoring feedback.

Infinity Ward ignores Modern Warfare 2 feedback

In a blog post published on September 20, 2022, the developer sheds light on the reasoning behind the lack of change to the Modern Warfare 2 mini-map. “We do not want to punish players for firing their weapons,” states Infinity Ward.

“We also want players to actively search out the origin of a gunshot versus just travelling directly to where the dot is on the mini-map.” With no red dots appearing on the map during a match, suppressors that typically hide red dots when firing a gun lack purpose. Former Call of Duty pro turned Warzone streamer Tyler “TeeP” Polchow says Infinity Ward “doesn’t care” when it comes to listening to player feedback.

As expected, many members of the community are left wondering why the previous Call of Duty titles have used a mini-map that shows gunfire enabling players to equip a suppressor as a counter. Infinity Ward says it will “continue to gather feedback on how the game is playing” with the current mini-map settings.

However, if player feedback continues to demand the return of the classic mini-map, Infinity Ward will find it hard to keep the current mini-map in the full game which launches in just over a month.
