Sledgehammer Games has announced Modern Warfare 3 will feature maps from 2022's Modern Warfare 2.
Several assets from Modern Warfare 3's prequel are already arriving into the game including an extensive selection of guns and weapons to create a huge arsenal for players to use during Pre-Season.
While some players are excited by the thought of even more maps joining the ever-expanding list of maps, others are sharing their concerns surrounding the potential lack of brand-new designs making their way to multiplayer as part of the seasonal updates that will roll out throughout the game cycle.
The announcement arrived on October 31, 2023, with a blog post sharing more about how the integration of Modern Warfare 2 maps will work.
The post reads:
"We are excited to announce that a number of fan-favourite Modern Warfare 2 maps will gradually become available to play in Modern Warfare 3 throuhgout the live seasons.
To address concerns about the lack of original maps arriving to multiplayer, the blog also reveals that the arrival of Modern Warfare 2 maps is "completely additive," meaning they will appear alongside any new maps that will start releasing with the launch of Season 1.
The first set of four maps will arrive shortly after the Modern Warfare 3 servers are switched on. The maps revealed so far are Shoot House, Mercado Las Almas, and Farm 18. Details on the fourth and final map appearing in the first batch haven't been revealed.
Judging by the comments, there's some optimism from players looking forward to experiencing the maps with the ability to slide cancel. One fan says: "I honestly think the maps they chose were some of the decent ones in MW2. I hope the unnamed map isn't just MW2 Shipment."
If Sledgehammer Games and the rest of the studios select the maps that are the most popular, there's a high chance of 2022's Modern Warfare 2 maps being just as popular as the battlegrounds that are already present in the game. Let's hope there are no signs of Santa Sena Border Crossing or Black Gold ever returning.
