Modern Warfare 3 fans claim some of the multiplayer maps in Sledgehammer Games' latest release aren't as good as their predecessors.
The opening beta weekend for Modern Warfare 3 has given players the first chance for players to experience a small selection of maps that will feature in the full multiplayer build. Although the likes of Favela and Rust are on their way back, some believe the visual updates haven't done the original battlegrounds the justice they deserve.
As expected, the claim has generated plenty of debate among players who aren't best pleased with what multiplayer potentially has in store.
In a now-deleted Reddit post, userServeThePatricians claimed Modern Warfare 3's Rust "looks crap" and asks how the 2019 Modern Warfare reboot’s version of the iconic battlefield looks better than one releasing in 2023 that targets more powerful systems.
An eagle-eyed player isn't pleased with the lack of detail: "Grey sky plus lack of detail on walls. Classic Sledgehammer L."
Another frustrated player believes: "The amount of times I've said to myself it's just the beta, it'll get better, and then the game comes out and it looks and feels exactly the same, they don't give a f**k they just want money."
The mediocre colour palate of the maps on offer isn't the only concern for players who have had a chance to load into the action. The spawn logic is already alarmingly awful according to those attempting to capture Hardpoint hills and Domination flags.
However, Sledgehammer Games has already shared information on what it's working on ahead of the second beta weekend and it's good news for those struggling to see during matches. The developer plans on introducing adjustments to player visibility, slide timing, and spawn selection in order to improve the flow of matches.
As it's only a beta, it's too early to tell whether the developer will make changes to Rust and other maps to enhance their visual quality. Considering Sledgehammer is already making adjustments, there's a chance it will acknowledge community feedback and aim to make the maps look as good as they did in 2019's Modern Warfare.
