With the Open Beta for Monster Hunter: Wilds currently out in the wilds. Players are excited to try the new features it has on offer. One was the ability to cook everywhere you go and set up pop-up camps. However, Wilds’ best addition was the freedom to bring two weapons on a hunt.
The new weapon-swapping feature is helpful as you can switch on the fly while riding your Seikret. For example, you can get a Bow as your primary weapon, but if the Monster prefers close-ranged encounters, you can swap it with your Greatsword as a secondary weapon.
How does this work? Well, in this guide, here’s how to swap weapons mid-fight in Monster Hunter: Wilds:
Befriend Your Seikret
One of the best things in Monster Hunter: Wilds is your newfound companion, the Seikret. These Chocobo-like creatures are helpful when moving from one place to another. It uses the same controls as Monster Hunter: Rise’s Palamutes, but this one has wings and can glide—a total upgrade.
Getting to know the Seikret controls can save you a lot of time. It’s useful for life-and-death situations as you can restock items from its pouch or sharpen your weapon when so much stuff is happening on screen. It’s also the only way to swap your weapons on the fly.
Go Inside Your Camp
Your camp is the safest place in our hunts across the Forbidden Lands. Inside, you can equip your armor, restock items, and, most importantly, pick a secondary weapon.
This is where the magic happens. The Open Beta only gave us the basic weapon sets, but it contained at least 14 weapons. Choosing which weapon to use as primary or secondary shouldn’t be a hard choice. If you’ve been playing Monster Hunter since its PlayStation 2 era, I assume you already have your favorite weapon ready.
As for my recommendation, it pays to get two different weapons useful for ranged and melee encounters. However, we all know Hammer mains like myself would just equip another Hammer as a secondary option.
The Switch Button
Pressing the Right Directional Pad on your controller can seamlessly swap between two weapons. But before doing that, you must be on your Seikret; otherwise, nothing will happen.
This opens up a floodgate of new ideas, especially for speedrunners who want to slay every monster in under 5 minutes. Imagine the videos from Monster Hunter Pros with this new weapon-swapping feature.
The Monster Hunter: Wilds Open Beta ends this November 4. This is unfortunate for players who wanted more of CAPCOM’s highly anticipated action RPG. The good news is that it comes out on February 28 next year. So that’s four months of agonizing wait.
