This summer’s been a pretty great one for fighting game fans, with Street Fighter 6 having released to an overwhelmingly positive reception back in June, and the arrival of Mortal Kombat 1 now being imminent.

No matter whether you’re planning to jump into MK1 as soon as its early access unlocks or are waiting until September 19, odds are you’ve been checking out all of the trailers and impressions that’ve been dropping in the run up to its release.

Regardless of which fighters you’ve been looking forward to playing as or beating up, it looks like forming a tag team of beefy boys might make you pretty tough to beat.

Are you planning on rolling with a brawny duo of dudes in Mortal Kombat 1?

One of the aspects of Mortal Kombat 1 that fans have been a bit sceptical about in the run up to release are its Kameo fighters, which serve as a bit of a partner to your main fighter and will sometimes jump into the action to provide a helping hand.

What you might not know is that they can also have an impact on how much damage you can withstand in battle.

“[There’s been a] lot of [speculation] about health values for characters,” acknowledged NetherRealm Lead QA Analyst Stephanie Brownback in a recent tweet, before explaining: “In Mortal Kombat 1, your health is based on both your roster and Kameo character.”

“For example,” the developer added: “Shao and Jax both have increased health, so you can pair them together to be big meaty men with hella health.”

Though, if you’re wondering if this means the key to becoming unstoppable is just to pick the beefiest pair of dudes you can, that’s not quite the case. Brownback revealed in a reply to streamer fLoE that not all of the game’s husky heavyweights boast boosted health values. “Some will have to be more kareful when slapping meat,” the developer responded.

Over on the Mortal Kombat subreddit, plenty of players seem psyched at the idea of teaming up a couple of buff brawlers, though there’s also been so debate about how Kameo fighters playing a role in health values will affect the overall balance of the game, at least in the short-term.

Regardless of whether you’re planning to kick some bottom using a pair of beefy lads, make sure to follow us for a bunch of helpful guides that’ll aid you in your quest to get to grips with MK1.
