In Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, battles are relentless and dangerous. The Mortal Wound status effect is one of the most dangerous things you’ll face. This effect drastically weakens your character, putting you at a severe disadvantage whether you play solo or with friends.
Mortal Wound can be especially problematic in higher difficulty levels, where it has an even more detrimental effect on your character.
If you want to know more about the Mortal Wound status effect and how to cure it quickly, you are in the right place.
What is a Mortal Wound?
A Mortal Wound in Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is a critical state triggered when your character is incapacitated during Operations or the Campaign. When your HP reaches zero, a teammate has to revive you, or you'll need to wait for a respawn.
After being revived, your character gains the Mortal Wound status effect, indicated by a skull icon next to the health bar. You will die instantly if you get knocked out again during this status. Upon respawning, your character will return with half health and drop all items except Armory Data.
This effect activates after one incapacitation in higher difficulties like Substantial and Ruthless. On Minimal and Average difficulties, it takes two. To stay effective in combat, managing and controlling this status effect is essential.
How to Cure a Mortal Wound
Fortunately, there are two ways to cure a Mortal Wound of your character. The first involves using a resource called Guardian Relics, and the second involves the respawning technique.
Use Guardian Relics
The simplest way to heal a Mortal Wound is by using the Guardian Relic. It is a key support item found while exploring and earned by completing different missions.
With a Guardian Relic, you can heal yourself and remove the Mortal Wound status effect. Only one Guardian Relic can be carried at a time, so use them strategically. To find these items, explore the map carefully as they are scattered randomly in Operations and Campaigns.
Accept Death and Respawn
If you don’t have a Guardian Relic or have already used it, your only option is to let your character die. Once you reach the next checkpoint, the Mortal Wound will be removed, but you will start with reduced health and lose all items except Armory Data. This can be useful when an immediate revival isn’t possible.
