Looking to battle with friends? If so, you'll want to learn more about local multiplayer in MultiVersus. The free-to-play brawler based on Warner Bros. characters is available in beta now, and you can already dive into matches with your friends in couch co-op.
In this MultiVersus guide, we'll explain how the local multiplayer component works. That's alongside some details on how to get into offline matches with friends, to let the old-school vibes roll.
Is MultiVersus local multiplayer?
The good news is that yes, you can play MultiVersus using local multiplayer. It has offline matchmaking for you to duke it out against friends in the same room as you, so you can enjoy the action the old-fashioned way.
Local multiplayer in MultiVersus is separate from the online matchmaking, though. As such, there are a few differences between the experiences, although gameplay is identical.
One thing to note is that you can play as any of the roster in local multiplayer, even if you haven't unlocked them online. As such, it's a good way to test out the various characters to see where you'll spend your next dose of gold. There's a drawback though, because you won't earn rewards offline, no doubt to avoid boosting.
How do I play MultiVersus local multiplayer?
You'll be glad to learn that playing the MultiVersus local multiplayer is a fairly easy process. You don't have to unlock anything in-game prior to getting access to the mode, meaning you could in theory head straight into it first. Here are our instructions:
- Press the Play icon on the MultiVersus main menu.
- On the game selection, scroll right to Custom, and click Local Play.
- Select your characters and ready up.
- Then, connect up to three additional controllers to dive into 2v2 action.
From there you'll dive into general MultiVersus gameplay with friends. It'll give you the old-school memories of playing Smash or Tekken on the same TV with different pads. Luckily, the fact you don't have to have already unlocked the characters means everybody can pick their favourite fighter to duke it out with.
That's it for our look at the MultiVersus local multiplayer! You'll be glad to learn that it's already and in the game, and the chances are it'll remain there for good. Considering how much of a focus MultiVersus places on co-op fighting and duking it out in squads, that's certainly for the best.
