Nintendo is finally bringing the acclaimed Golden Sun games to Nintendo Switch as part of the Switch Online Expansion Pass. These classics were initially teased when Nintendo announced GBA games as part of the service, but fans will finally be able to play them later this month.
During a surprisingly well-made trailer for the two RPGs, it was revealed that these two titles will be available for Switch Online on January 17. Fans won’t have to wait long before they give these games a well-deserved revisit and newcomers can finally give them a shot, assuming they’re signed into the service.
Golden Sun and its sequel Golden Sun: The Lost Age are great RPGs in their own right. At the time of their release, these were some of the best-looking games on the Game Boy Advance. Both games do look a bit dated today but they still look decent and the gameplay remains as timeless as ever.
Right now, the only game in the Golden Sun series not available on Switch is Golden Sun: Dark Dawn on Nintendo DS. Dark Dawn was also well-liked upon release and, unfortunately, we haven’t gotten any entries since.
It’s a shame that Nintendo hasn’t done anything with the series since these three games, considering the fan demand. Before these re-releases, the most fans have gotten has been Isaac appearing in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as an assist trophy. That’s still not a lot and fans are hoping he eventually appears in the series or gets a remake.
On the bright side, Nintendo has been remaking more of their GBA games for Switch. We recently got the Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp, which was reviewed excellently, and we’re also getting Mario vs Donkey Kong next month. Hopefully, Golden Sun is next, as fans would be all over a duology/trilogy made from the ground up.
