The Nintendo Switch launched in 2017, and after almost a decade, it’s finally getting the upgrade that fans have been begging for.

Nintendo has just officially unveiled the Nintendo Switch 2, and fans are wondering what’s new with the hardware and how it improves on the original Switch.

What’s New with the Nintendo Switch 2

Nintendo has officially dropped a new trailer for the Switch 2 on their channel, and it has a pretty good comparison of how it holds up against the original Nintendo Switch. Watch this:

A lot of the information that’s known about the Switch so far is shown in the trailer. The trailer confirms that the Switch 2 will be bigger, as well as the joy-cons on both sides.

Instead of sliding into the console, the cons will now be magnetized; there have been complaints on old Switches that the joy-cons slide off over time.

The stand on the back of the Switch is now wider, allowing the device to lie down almost horizontally—like a drawing tablet. The video also features a new charging dock and a curious controller button, which fans still wonder about.

Back of the Switch 2

While the original Switch had a red and blue color scheme, the Switch 2 is modern with its black look. The colors are now just under the analog sticks. Since the Switch is available in different colors, the Switch 2 may also come with different looks and accessories.

What about the Hardware?

Nothing official has been revealed about the hardware, but fans expect it to be more powerful than the Switch.

The Nintendo Switch couldn’t surpass the power of its fellow-gen consoles, like the PS4 and Xbox One, but maybe the Switch 2 can catch up this time.

While playing AAA games could still be a stretch for the Nintendo Switch 2, it may be able to play some high-graphic games in the most moderate setting. Technology has only gone so far since the launch of the handheld Steam Deck.

So far, the only feature confirmed is that the game will be able to play older Nintendo Switch games, but it also confirms that not all would be playable with the Switch 2; maybe it would have something to do with third-party games.

What Games are Coming?

So far, the only game teased is the next Mario Kart game, and few details have been revealed. Some people have noticed that they may be able to add even more players during a race.

With an official showcase for the Switch 2 set to come out in April, it’s possible some new games could be announced alongside the next Mario Kart. A new Zelda could be too early, but a new Mario adventure will likely happen.

Nintendo is set to reveal more on April 2 during the Nintendo Direct event.
