The NPCs in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 have proven to be much more intelligent than your average video game bystanders.
As many players are finding out the hard way, these NPCs are keeping a close eye on your every move—and they’re not afraid to rat you out to the authorities if you step out of line. A recent post by Reddit user @Jattmogger illustrates just how ruthless the NPCs can be. After sneaking into a carpenter’s house and murdering his family to steal a stash of valuable goods, Jattmogger thought they had gotten away clean.
However, when they returned to the village, the wife of the late carpenter identified the stolen gear they were wearing, and it wasn’t long before they were caught and executed. The lesson here? If you’re going to commit a crime, make sure you clean up all evidence and avoid flaunting stolen goods. Better yet, perhaps don’t leave witnesses alive at all.
But it’s not just about stolen items. NPCs in KCD2 are incredibly adept at making connections, even in the most subtle situations. After hearing Jattmogger's story, other users started sharing their own run-ins with the game's witty NPCs. In a separate incident, a user (@Totallynotstefan) tried to take a musical instrument from a vendor after their purchase attempt was turned down.
But as soon as the theft went down, the NPC caught on right away, remembered their earlier chat, and pointed the finger. NPCs are also perceptive and have a great memory. One user (@Faizetto) also recounted how they were arrested three days after stealing a horse.
No one had seen them take the horse, but a stable girl spotted them running off, and the authorities caught up with them shortly after. With NPCs having long-term memory, the crime system in KCD2 feels much more authentic. Another commenter, @Apcsox, shared a funny yet frustrating encounter.
They had knocked out and robbed a group of bath wenches while they were asleep at 3 a.m., thinking they’d gotten away with it. However, days later, the guards stopped them and referenced the incident, accusing them of knocking the women out. The NPCs had not only remembered the specific crime but had even connected it to the player, even though they hadn’t been directly seen at the scene.
If you’re caught acting suspiciously, NPCs will start to connect the dots, and before you know it, your criminal past will catch up with you. So, if you’re planning to indulge in a little lawbreaking, be sure to think ahead—because in Bohemia, eyes are everywhere, and no crime slips through the cracks for long.
