Palworld has a solid base management loop where you start off by doing everything by hand. Eventually, you can get all your Pals to automate all the work for you. There will be dozens of jobs around your base that will need attention, and sometimes, your Pals won't be responsive. In these situations, you need to know how to assign Pals in Palworld.

Assigning Pals is a simple process but one that the game doesn't explain. Once you learn how to go about this, you can begin prioritising the production and resources you need the most. So, let's see how the manual assignment of Pals works in Palworld.

How to assign Pals in Palworld

If you want to manually assign Pals to do the specific task you want them to, you have to pick them up and throw them at it. We're not kidding. It's a cute but janky implementation of the assignment process rather than making a separate menu screen for the jobs or for your Pals.

To assign a Pal, you first need to have that Pal already active on your base. You can do this by interacting with the Palbox and assigning the Pal to work on the base. Now, walk up to the Pal, and you'll see an option to Lift it.

You now want to lift the Pal and walk over to the activity you want it to perform. Press the same button you pressed to lift the Pal, and your character will throw it.

The Pal will then look at the closest job that it's eligible for and start working on it, and you'll get a notification that the assignment was successful.

If there is no eligible job nearby or in the path, your Pal will return to auto-work mode, and you'll get a notification for this. Note that manual assignment can be quite janky if your buildings are located close by and Pals are eligible for multiple jobs in the vicinity. Pal beds, in particular, seem to take priority over everything else as the Pal immediately goes to sleep.

That's all you need to know about manually assigning Pals to their jobs. Once you've learned this, you might also want to learn how to cook in Palworld. Also, learn how to breed Pals.
