Palworld continues to be a sales juggernaut, managing to sell millions of copies despite only being released for less than one week. What makes this even more impressive is that this Pokémon-like game is selling faster than an actual Pokémon game: Pokémon Legends: Arceus.
Twitter user Benii-Sales has confirmed that this Pokémon competitor is selling at an impressive pace, as Arceus sold 6.5 million copies in one week. For comparison’s sake, Palworld has sold 7 million copies in five days, showing that this might give Nintendo’s IP a run for its money.
If the sales keep going at this rate, The Pokémon Company might have to consider the competition and maybe even make their games better. When the company was asked about this survival title’s success, they didn’t even bother giving a comment, showing a lack of caring. It might stay that way, though that doesn’t mean they should ignore this game’s success.
Fans are gravitating towards Palworld because they like the idea of Pokémon wielding guns. To be more fair to the survival game, it also offers a rich world to explore with various ways to travel, which is something fans of Pokémon have wanted for years. While games like Arceus, Scarlet, and Violet do offer some freedom, these games don't perform well, hence, all this support towards a Pokémon-like competitor.
Unfortunately, there’s also some controversy surrounding this game, as many artists have accused it of plagiarising existing Pokémon designs and possibly using AI art. This has led to many heated discussions in the gaming community, with some of the game’s devs getting death threats as a result. While the controversy is a shame, the game is selling millions of copies quickly, so it’s hard to feel too bad about it.
