The Ancient Vows quest is one of the more cryptic tasks in Path of Exile 2, but it’s worth the grind.
The quest sends you on a hunt for two relics, and once you find them, you get to choose a permanent buff that can give your character a serious boost.
But the relics aren’t handed to you on a silver platter, so you’ll need to work to track them down.
Here’s how to track down the Ancient Vows relics and make the most of those buffs.
How To Find Ancient Vows Relics
You can access the Ancient Vows quest once you obtain either the Sun Clan Relic or the Kabala Clan Relic.
This happens naturally during your exploration in Act 2, where you'll run into enemies that drop these relics randomly.
The quest doesn’t give the exact spots for these relics, so you’ll need to check out areas where they drop.
The Sun Clan Relic drops from enemies in The Bone Pits, where you'll find skeletons and the bones of ancient creatures.
Once you take out the enemies, one of them will drop the Sun Clan Relic.
This relic pops up as a green item in your inventory, so it’s easy to spot among the other drops.
Keep going until you get your hands on it. On the other hand, the Kabala Clan Relic is found in Keth, a region with desert terrain and serpentine creatures.
Much like the Sun Clan Relic, this item is a random drop from enemies, especially the naga-like serpent creatures that populate the area.
The drop rate is somewhat erratic, so expect to defeat multiple enemy groups before obtaining the relic.
You can’t progress in the Ancient Vows quest without both relics. Once you have a relic, you can skip to the next step.
If not, continue exploring The Bone Pits or Keth until you collect both.
How To Use Ancient Vows Relics
When you have the Sun Clan and Kabala Clan Relics, head to the Offering to Amrit in the Valley of the Titans.
There’s a large altar with two open slots for the relics.
To wrap up the quest, drag the relics out of your inventory and position them into the medallion’s slots.
When both relics are in place, you’ll be prompted to choose between two buffs. The first option gives you 30% more Charm Charges.
The second option is a 15% Increased Mana Recovery from Flasks. This comes in clutch for builds that need mana for abilities.
Your choice comes down to your playstyle and what your build needs, but both buffs have their perks.
If you often run out of mana in combat, the mana recovery from flasks will help keep things running smoothly.
But if your strategy is about managing charm charges for specific effects, the charm charge buff will be more useful.
One of the benefits of the Ancient Vows quest is that you can change your buff any time.
If you want to change things up or try the other buff, you can head back to the Valley of the Titans and use the medallion to toggle between them.
There's no cost to switching, so feel free to experiment and adjust depending on what you run into.
