Xbox’s Perfect Dark reboot has finally been revealed, and it looks like the best spy video game since the original Splinter Cell.

Revealed alongside games such as DOOM: The Dark Ages, Fable and Black Ops 6 during the Xbox Games Showcase, Perfect Dark is a new exclusive game for Xbox Series and PC. Developed by The Initiative and Crystal Dynamics, the upcoming reboot finally returns to the action-focused spycraft of the original.

In the game’s latest trailer, we see the no-longer redhead Joanna Dark performing a mission in Cairo. Xbox promises that players will start missions with multiple objectives that all have multiple ways to be completed.

Just like the original game, multiple gadgets will be usable during gameplay, such as hacking tools and stun guns to proceed through a mission with complete stealth. Alongside smooth gunplay, Perfect Dark also includes seamless melee combat, recreating that John Wick style of Gun-Fu.

Set in a near-future world impacted by “The Cascade”, the new Perfect Dark game offers a wholly unique world ravaged by environmental disaster. However, as you continue through the game’s story, you’ll discover the true cause behind the world’s massive destruction.

Perfect Dark’s near-future setting has fuelled every aspect of its gameplay. You can deepfake guards voices to bypass security features, use smart weapons to take out foes and parkour around cleverly designed futuristic environments. It all looks so much better than any of us thought it could.

No Perfect Dark release date has been confirmed as of yet. However, the game will release simultaneously on Xbox Series and PC whenever it does come out, as well as via the Xbox Game Pass subscription service.

After the fairly underwhelming release of Starfield and the barely-played Hellblade 2, Perfect Dark looks like the AAA adventure Xbox gamers really need.
