Next-gen PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X video-game console pre-orders swarm eBay — at a massive markup

As expected, the sold-out pre-orders of Sony’s PlayStation 5 and Microsoft’s Xbox Series X (and Series S) are hitting eBay by the thousands.

An eBay search for “Xbox Series X” alone brings up 4,129 results; 3,396 for the PlayStation 5. People really want to get their hands on these things.

And with games like Cyberpunk 2077 — one of the most hotly anticipated releases of the decade — right around the corner, it’s not terribly surprising.

The coronavirus and its impact on everything else has made an immersive sci-fi role-playing game all the more appealing. Not to mention the annual Call of Duty entry, a stunning new Star Wars dogfighting sim, and everything else coming in the next year or so.

The Xbox Series X is averaging around $700 to $1,000 USD.

As of this writing, there’s a limited-edition Halo Infinite Series X bundle — a Best Buy exclusive complete with steelbook case and Master Chief statuette — up for $1,150 or best offer.

There are standard PS5s with “buy-it-now” prices of $2,000 or more; most of them seem to be priced in the $900 range.

One hot deal sellers have put together, naturally, is selling the Series X together with the full-featured disc edition of the PlayStation for a bundle price of — well, $2,500 or best offer. It’s pretty wild.

Another eBay user listed their PS5 pre-order for a buy-it-now price of $455,599.95, or best offer, which you sort of have to respect.

One seller took it a step further, offering up the Xbox Series X for a buy-it-now price of $1 million. “Guaranteed most expensive on eBay,” the listing name boasts.

And if you’re just looking for a PlayStation 5 made out of bent cardboard, hey, you can grab one of those for just $370 USD.

It’s just another normal one on eBay.
