February 28, 2023: Learn how to hatch eggs fast in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet!

We've all been there - trying to fill out our Pokédex and have started breeding egg after egg to get the right Pokemon. Here's our guide on how to hatch eggs fast in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet to fill out those last entries. It's one way to get the shiny charm you'll need to start farming shiny Pokemon in the new games.

Hatching eggs has been a feature in Pokémon games since day one, and will likely never leave the franchise. It can ensure getting a Pokémon with the right stats, gender, nature, or abilities that you choose, or even a shiny!

To help you get started in the new region of Paldea, we recommend checking out how to get Herba Mystica, where you can find Rare Candy, and all the sandwich recipes that you can make at the Picnics for boosts in the game!

How to hatch eggs fast in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

Each egg that you get in Pokémon requires a certain amount of in-game steps to be taken for it to hatch. This age-old way hasn't changed in Scarlet and Violet.

The easiest way to hatch eggs is to run around - or cycle around on Koraidon and Miraidon - until the egg hatches. The best way to do this is to find an open space, and just circle around.

There is, thankfully, still a trick to reduce the cycles an egg needs to hatch. Any Pokémon with the Flame Body ability will reduce the number of steps needed by half when it's in the party, saving a lot of time!

Here are the Pokémon in Scarlet and Violet that have a chance of having the Flame Body ability:

  • Fletchinder
  • Talonflame
  • Carkoal
  • Coalossal
  • Larvesta
  • Volcarona
  • Charcadet
  • Armarouge

When hatching eggs, you can't check the specific number of steps needed, and how many you've taken, but the egg will tell you when it's near hatching... or still far from it.

Attaining eggs has changed a little in Generation 9, even if the hatching method hasn't. You can read a lot more about it on our dedicated Pokemon breeding guide for Scarlet and Violet.

For the basic idea, though, you'll be breeding Pokemon unwittingly whenever you set up a picnic. There's no daycare in these games, making picnics the way to go about breeding compatible Pokemon.
