Pokemon Stadium Gym Leader Castle - Rules, trainers, and more

Are you ready to take on the Gym Leader Castle in Pokemon Stadium, but don't know how to get started? Our guide will be of a big help to you! The Gym Leader Castle is one of the main modes in the game, and we'll go through everything that you need to know to take on this gauntlet.

After almost 25 years, Pokemon Stadium was re-released to the Nintendo Switch Online service, and many players new and old will be taking on this challenge, and we're here to make that journey as smooth as possible.

Pokemon Stadium Gym Leader Castle rules

Just like the cups in the game, there are rules for the Gym Leader Castle.

Game Boy Pokemon Useable - Yes
Rentals - Yes (All except Mewtwo and Mew)
Level Cap - Level 100
Opponent Level - 50 or equal to your highest levelled Pokemon
Same Pokemon - No
Sleep Clause (No more than 2 Pokémon Asleep) - Yes
Freeze Clause (No more than 2 Pokémon Frozen) - Yes
Self Knockout Clause (Final Pokémon fainting at the same time as opponent equals loss) - Yes

The biggest things to note here are that you can rent a team for each gym, so you can tailor your team for the fight that's ahead. All Pokemon are allowed here except Mewtwo and Mew, so we'll cover some of the top teams to use for each gym as well.

In the original game, the Rival's team would change if you were using a Game Boy Pokemon title's Pokemon, and would be different depending on the starter that you picked. Since we don't have any connection to the original Game Boy games, you'll be using a Rental team and so the Rival will have the team that we listed.
