The next and final DLC for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet finally has a solid release date. After months of waiting, the last expansion for the controversial Pokémon game is finally on its way.

As the second half of The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero storyline, The Indigo Disk takes players to an all-new location never before seen in the Pokémon universe.

Releasing on December 14, 2023, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet: The Indigo Disk DLC follows on from the September expansion The Teal Mask. While that first DLC won’t have any bearing on this expansion’s story, it may have some impact on the difficulty of the new content.

In the new DLC, you will travel as a foreign exchange student to Burberry Academy. The new academy has plenty of new students to meet and beat in brilliantly spectacular Pokémon battles, especially the Academy’s own Elite Four.

Alongside the new location, both brand-new and returning Pokémon will be present, alongside new forms for prior creatures. For example, Raging Bolt is a brand-new form for the Johto Legendary Pokémon Raikou, and it looks hella stupid.

Of course, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet: The Indigo Disk also includes its own legendary, Teraoagos. This Neopets looking lizard will transform into a huge crystalline turtle, which is pretty damn neat for something that looks so cute and squishable.

Over 100 classic Pokémon are returning for the new DLC. Some Kanto favourites such as Bulbasaur and Squirtle will appear as well as that gross squid Malamar. Thankfully, the ever-cute Totodile is there to balance everything out.

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet: The Indigo Disk may be the last game in the series made for the current Nintendo Switch hardware. With the Nintendo Switch 2 planned for 2024, this could be the series’ swansong on Nintendo’s current generation of hardware.

The Indigo Disk will be available exclusively on Nintendo Switch on December 14th, 2023.
