November 8: Updated our list with Pokemon from the newest trailer!

The Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Pokedex is far from complete just yet, but we've scoured trailers, social media, and official announcements to make a new Pokemon list for generation eight. We've broken it down into new Pokemon, returning creatures, and version exclusives you'll want to pay attention to.

Finding, training, and becoming friends with Pokémon is at the heart of any game in the franchise. Things kicked off with a look at our choice of three starter Pokemon, with critters like Fidough, Wigglet, and legendary Pokemon Miraidon and Koraidon popping up between reveals of fan-favourites like Eevee, Jigglypuff, Tyranitar, and more.

Check out our starter guide to learn more about the starter trio for the two games, Sprigatito, Fuecoco, and Quaxly. Also, the trailer shows multiple environments, but are the games open-world? Read our guide to find out!

Because Pokemon Scarlet and Violet signal a new generation of Pokemon, a bunch of new Pokemon are set to make their debut in it.

So far, only a month before release, we've seen far few new Scarlet and Violet Pokemon than we have in any modern generation build up.

That's according to Joe Merrick of fansite Serebii. And with no confirmation as to how many new Pokemon there are in generation eight, we don't know how many more to expect.

This Pokédex is currently based on the Pokémon that made an appearance in every trailer, spotlight, and social media post made about Pokemon Scarlet and Violet up to October 2022.

As we approach the final month before release, it's only a matter of time before the complete list surfaces, or there's a big data dump that drops a good portion of them onto the internet.

For now, though, be sure to view the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Pokemon list above now as a complete list of what you'll find in the game, but a list of the Pokemon we know will be in the game. There will be a lot more in the final release than we know of right now.

Who are the new Scarlet and Violet Pokemon from the October trailer?

Shortly after the Jump into a Paldean Journey trailer released for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet on October 6, keen-eyed trainers were made aware that the 14-minute video wasn't as devoid of new Scarlet and Violet Pokemon as they first thought.

In one quick frame of the video, it's possible to see three new Gen 8 Pokemon on the in-game mini-map. Sharing a zone with Rookidee, a returning creature from generation seven.

These three Pokemon are completely unknown to us right now, but their appearance in the trailer would suggest they'll be formally announced before release just like Wigglett was recently.

The one closest to the edge of the map lines up with a recent leak as well, which described a Pokemon that looked like it came straight out of Minecraft and resembled a kind of salt rock. We'd mistake it for cinderblocks wedged into some set concrete as well, which could suggest a Rock/Fairy-type Pokemon.

The other two, a mouse-like creature and a parakeet, don't appear to have leaked anywhere beforehand, but we could be looking at some very early Route 1 Pokemon similar to Rattata, Pidgey, Zigzagoon, Bidoof, and Sentret.

Like just about any main series Pokemon game in the past, you'll need to trade with players of the other version of Pokemon Scarlet or Violet if you're to have any hope of completing your Pokedex.

That's because the in-progress Pokemon Scarlet and Violet version exclusive Pokemon list is already quite long, and it'll only get longer on release when we figure out what's missing from each.

So if you don't want to buy both games, check out the list above and make your decision based on which has the Pokemon you want the most. This won't matter too much with global trades being easier than ever, but if you're not subscribed to Nintendo Switch Online, you'll be relying on local trades to catch em' all.

Unless Pokemon Scarlet and Violet release on November 22 ,2022, check out our pages on the new game's professions, your rival, and everything we know about the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Terastal mechanic and tera raids as well.
