Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown release date

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown has been officially released on January 18, 2024. This means that it will have been almost 14 years since the release date of The Forgotten Sands, heralding a new era for the franchise.

Although the game's initial announcement took some people by surprise, it's been known that a new Prince of Persia game has been in development at Ubisoft for quite some time. Leaks as far back as 2020 detail the game's development, seemingly coming at the expense of the heavily delayed, yet still alive, remake of the classic Prince of Persia: Sands of Time.

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown platforms

For PC players, the game is currently available on both Ubisoft Connect and the Epic Games Store and will be available to stream from Amazon Luna. The newest in the Prince of Persia franchise is also on Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X and PS5.

It's also been confirmed that Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown will also be released on the old-generation consoles, the Xbox One and PS4. There are no plans to bring the game to Steam at this time, and the game is yet to be confirmed for Xbox Game Pass, however, it will likely make its way there in the months after release.

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown trailer

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is returning the series to its 2D roots as an action-platformer. There will be some great Metroidvania action, with a platforming mechanic that allows you to swing off of horizontal poles and complete complex wall-jump puzzles to avoid spikes.

2D action platformers have become a home for indie hits, such as Hollow Knight, Dead Cells, and Shovel Knight. It'll be interesting to see how a similar title published by a triple-A developer performs, and whether they're able to make a significant contribution to the genre.

To survive in Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, you'll be given a diverse skillset to keep yourself alive. You'll be able to manipulate time, similar to the classic titles, to slow down or teleport your way past enemies. You'll also have a range of combat abilities, being able to take ranged fights with a bow or get up close and personal with your sword.

If you're interested in seeing some of Prince of Persia's gameplay for yourself, be sure to check out the trailer below. You'll get to see clips of combat and platforming from the game, as well as some hints as to what the newest story in the Prince of Persia franchise will contain.
