After years of constant updates, Project L, Riot Games' fighting game, is set to be officially unveiled with its actual title and social channels, senior director and executive producer of the project.
Cannon stated via social media that a final Project L update is coming on February 22 teasing it would be the last one not because the dev team was going silent, but because moving forward the game will be referred by its official name.
Hey folks, tomorrow [February 22] (for real) we'll drop a quick Project L update. It will also be the last Project L update, because we're announcing our actual name and social channels. See you then!
Project L has been the working title of Riot's fighting game publicly for almost five years. The game was first shown in 2019, during Riot's presentation of several other games that included Project A (which would become Valorant), Project F, an action-RPG that's not been seen in quite some time, and more.
The development team has been steadily updating fans on what they can expect from the game, which went from being a traditional 1v1 fighting game similar to Street Fighter and evolved into becoming a 2v2 fast-paced tag-fighter more akin to Marvel vs Capcom or more recent titles like Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid.
Unlike Valorant, which successfully launched a brand-new cast of characters and universe for Riot Games, part of the appeal of Project L is that it will utilise characters from League of Legends, the company's flagship title.
So far, fan-favourites like Ahri, Jinx, and Darius are confirmed, with some more oddball choices such as Ekko, and Yasuo. We'll see if this new update gives us more confirmed champions and the possibility of an open beta for the public, considering the game was playable for Evo 2023 attendees back in August.
