With Red Dead Redemption 2 breaking records during its release back in late 2018, the game had become a massive success, garnering critical acclaim. It's been around five years since the game dropped and there has been no word from the game's developer and publisher on a third game. Until now, fans are still speculating whether Rockstar Games has any news for a Red Dead Redemption 3 release date.
Made as a prequel to the Red Dead series, this action-adventure game is presented through first and third-person perspectives as players can freely roam in the interactive open world. The story is set in a fictionalised representation of the United States in 1899, and follows the exploits of outlaw Arthur Morgan, a member of the Van der Linde gang, who must deal with the decline of the Wild West.
Red Dead Redemption 3 release date speculation
At the moment, a Red Dead Redemption 3 release date is still unknown. As a smashing hit of a game, there's no doubt that Rockstar Games wants to top their previous game, so they might be dedicating some time to fully craft a game that's as good as Red Dead Redemption 2 or perhaps even surpass it.
The only thing we know so far is that back in 2018, the director of the game and at the same time co-founder of Rockstar Games, Dan Houser, said in an interview with Vulture that a Red Dead Redemption 3 game could happen if the series' latest entry sold well. At the same time, Houser mentioned that the company would be focusing on Red Dead Online in the meantime back then.
With that, a third game in the Red Dead series doesn't seem too far-fetched. Though with the releases of the first and second game taking almost a decade, it might be quite a while until we see a third game, especially with GTA 6 on the horizon. For now, we can only dream up what features and improvements we'd want for a third game.
Five things we want to see in Red Dead Redemption 3
After Red Dead Redemption 2's release, players have been airing out their concerns and features they want to see to make the next game better.
Better control scheme
The first is having a better control scheme. In Red Dead Redemption 2, players have a difficult time remembering all the controls by muscle memory. If the goal's game is immersion, the designers should better design the controls in a way that players shouldn't have to read instructions every time and open their settings to recall the controls.
The criticism received by the game was mostly directed at the button layout and user interface, with comments being quite confusing and inconsistent. In line with that, the next instalment of this franchise must definitely work on the game controls to give players the best experience they could have.
More player freedom
Despite being an open-world game, there's still a lack of freedom in some parts of Red Dead Redemption 2. These include the absence of freedom in some missions. You may occasionally be offered the chance to make small choices for your companions, however, this isn't really much of the freedom a player would expect in an open-world game.
Some players could probably feel discouraged from exploring because of hunger, thirst, cleanliness, and the absence of fast travel. There is also that hesitance to commit crimes because of the bounty system. Even add how hunting is too realistic because of the weapon degradation and pelt quality mechanics.
Improved porting to different platforms
Though the game's Windows release received universal acclaim, the cutscene animations did not scale well to higher frame rates. Additionally, the game would crash several times during its early launch. Back then, the game demanded some technical advancements device-wise to smoothly run the game on PC.
In general, the technical issues that came with the game's PC release made it unplayable at the time. However, this was improved after some updates. Players can hope that before a potential third game in the Red Dead series drops, its technical issues are rectified so players won't have many troubles during the initial launch.
More Guarma content
Several players have taken notice of how Guarma had a lot of cut content. You weren't able to experience Guarma as a whole sandbox, or return to it after leaving, which has become a disappointing feature in Red Dead Redemption 2. Moreover, you'll be able to experience Guarma too quickly, making the segment feel quite rushed. This in turn contributes to the topic of having increased freedom for the game so players can further explore it.
Fixing the honour system
Lastly is having the honour system fixed. Perhaps some players can agree that the honour system has some flaws. This includes losing honour for killing someone who attacks you. This would demand having some ethical conversations on situations that came with the game, such as killing as a form of defence. This made the system too sensitive, and once again prevents players from experiencing full freedom with this game.
If Rockstar Games allocated more time to making the right balances with this system, players would be able to explore more options with their choices and have fun with it.
That's pretty much everything you need to know on the Red Dead Redemption 3 release date and features you'd want to see in a future game!
