Are you bored of a world without bouncing balls of slime everywhere you look? Then pick up Slime Rancher 2 and join a wiggly new adventure.
The sequel to the incredibly well-received Slime Rancher, from developers Monomi Park, sees beloved rancher Beatrix LeBeau return for another intergalactic Slime catch-a-thon. There are new secrets to find, new technologies to build, and a whole host of friendly new Slime blobs to catch and keep. The first iteration made its way to all consoles after garnering a huge following and bodes well for the second game to do the same.
While we wait for the sequel to get an official release date, we recommend checking out some other games like Genshin Impact, or Ni No Kuni: Cross Worlds.
Slime Rancher 2 Release Date
Slime Rancher 2 has just been given a September 22, 2022 release date! The game will launch in early access on Steam, and Xbox Game Pass on PC and console.
Early access is planned to be available for around 18 months before the full release. The game will also be on Xbox consoles, and currently, there are no confirmed plans for a Nintendo Switch release, but given the first game is now on the console we should expect it in the future.
Series director Nick Popovich took to the game's dedicated Reddit community to post a short Q&A about the upcoming game, and its early access. Read it here.
Sime Rancher 2 PlayStation 4 and 5 release date
Sony isn't renowned for having early releases of games on its platform - usually, everything releases completely. Slime Rancher came to PlayStation consoles two years after its initial release, once it was out of Early Access, so it is likely that Slime Rancher 2 will follow suit. For now, we don't have any timescale for this.
New Slimes In Slime Rancher 2
So far, it looks like all our favourite slimes from the first game are coming back, plus a lot of new faces. In the above trailer, we're introduced to Cotton Slimes that look like yellow bunnies, Angler Slimes, Ringtail Slimes, and Flutter Slimes. And most importantly: Batty Slimes. Which are kept in a brimming corral - making us feel better about stuffing too many slimes in a single home.
Slime Rancher 2's New Areas
There's a whole range (get it?) of new areas to experience in the second game. Beatrix has left The Far Far Range behind and is now stationed at Rainbow Island, to explore the new slimy ecosystem.
The biggest new addition is that of the Conservatory - the main new farming area that players can fill with wobbly, bouncy friends. Surrounding the new Ranch, there are areas like The Rainbow Fields, The Tidepools, Ember Valley and another Ancient Ruin. These areas will all have their own types of Slimes, with food and materials to collect, too.
What Is The Story Of Slime Rancher 2
Slime Rancher 2 looks to follow straight on from Slime Rancher, following Beatrix LeBeau on her intergalactic ranching adventure. Her next escapade takes place on Rainbow Island, a ‘vibrant new world’ filled with wiggly, jiggly, friendly Slimes.
Again you’ll be tasked with collecting and breeding Slimes, keeping them fed and watered so they produce those all-important Plorts. You’ll need loads of them to make plenty of Newbucks in order to fully kit out your Ranch, and upgrade your accoutrements to make Slime hunting even easier.
