Should I Wait For Samsung Galaxy S22? Here's What We Think

Should I wait for the Samsung Galaxy S22? If you're looking for an upgrade or taking the leap of faith from one OS to another, then you've likely asked yourself the same question...

Samsung has already had quite a year for announcements, with the upcoming Odyssey Neo G8 and Samsung Odyssey Ark monitor heading our way in the (hopefully) near future.

But it's their S22 that has been the 'talk of the town' recently and looks to be just around the corner.

So should you hold out? Here's what we think...

How Long Could The Wait For The Samsung Galaxy S22 Be?

Samsung has officially set their Galaxy Unpacked event as 9 February with the launch of the new S22 phone likely taking place during this.

A recent blog post from DR. TM Roh, President and Head of MX Business Samsung Electronics states the following...

"At Unpacked in February 2022, we’ll introduce you to the most noteworthy S series device we’ve ever created. The next generation of Galaxy S is here, bringing together the greatest experiences of our Samsung Galaxy into one ultimate device."

This very clearly suggests the upcoming launch of the latest flagship S phone from Samsung, so it looks like you won't have very long to wait at all.

The Samsung Galaxy unpacked event is expected to arrive at 10 am ET / 3 pm GMT on 9 February.

But how much can we expect Samsung's latest flagship phone to cost?

Samsung Galaxy S22 Rumoured Price

The official pricing for the Samsung Galaxy S22 has not yet been announced, but according to a recent Tweet from leaker chunvn8888, the prices could be as follows.

They have claimed that the Galaxy S22 will have a starting price of $899, with the S22 Plus starting at $1,099 and S22 Ultra starting at $1,299.

It is worth noting that these are not official prices and this leak should be taken with a pinch of salt as it may be inaccurate.

While we don't yet have an official price, do we know more about the specs?

Samsung Galaxy S22 Rumoured Specs

While the official specs have not yet been announced, according to websites gsmarena and tom's guide, the Samsung Galaxy S22 is rumoured to feature the following specifications.

The Samsung Galaxy S22 will feature a Dynamic AMOLED 6.1-inch screen with a rapid 120Hz refresh rate and FHD resolution.

The S22 Plus model will feature the same specs on a 6.5-inch screen and the Galaxy S22 Ultra is expected to come with a 6.8-inch AMOLED display, that features a stunning QHD resolution.

This, alongside HDR10+ and 1,500 nits of peak brightness, should mean the screen looks seriously sharp and feature excellent contrast.

The chipset is also rumoured to be either the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 or Exynos 2200, which when combined with up to 8GB should mean this phone is extremely fast.

When it comes to the camera, the Samsung S22 and S22 Plus are rumoured to feature a 10MP front-facing lens as well as a 50MP main lens and 12MP ultra-wide lens.

The S22 Ultra is expected to feature a 108MP main camera, with a 12MP ultra-wide lens and a 40MP front-facing lens.

For the battery, the new S22 is expected to come with a 3,800 mAh power bank, with the S22 Plus featuring 4,600 mAh and S22 Ultra offering a 5,000 mAh battery.

The Galaxy S22 is also rumoured to be available in various colour options including black, white, pink, green and gold.

Should I Wait For Samsung Galaxy S22?

Whether or not you should wait comes down to your individual preferences, however, we'd say the S22 could be worth sticking around for.

First off, with the Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event taking place on 9 February, it is likely you won't have to wait long to hear more.

The Samsung Galaxy S22 is almost undoubtedly likely to be faster than the current model, thanks to the newer Snapdragon or Exynos chipset.

There are also significant upgrades for the camera, with a 50MP main lens expected on the S22 and S22 Plus model while the S22 Ultra is set to feature the 108MP lens.

Of course, most of this is based on rumours, however, if they are accurate, it looks like the new S22 model will be a significant upgrade over the current Samsung Galaxy S21.

If you're not interested in waiting, of course, the Galaxy S21 and S21 Ultra are still some of the best phones to date and the recently released iPhone 13 and 13 Pro are always worth checking out too.
