Is Clash of Clans Shutting Down?

To put it simply: no, Clash of Clans is not shutting down, and those saying anything on the contrary are simply swirling around rumours.

The only authority that would be able to officially announce that Clash of Clans is shutting down is the game's long-time developer, Supercell. Given the studio has said nothing of the sort, it's safe to assume that Clash of Clans is going absolutely nowhere. It seems that these rumours have started, however, as a result of some devices no longer being supported.

Yes, while Clash of Clans is definitively not shutting down, it is true that some older mobile devices will no longer be able to run the game. This was announced by Supercell on November 15 in a blog post on its official website. It confirmed that any devices running iOS 11 or below, and Android 5.0 and below, would no longer be able to run Clash of Clans after the next update.

Sadly, that means some devices that are incompatible with later generations of system software will therefore no longer support the game. Supercell says it's due to "technical reasons beyond our control," so it looks like there won't be a last-minute change.

However, it should be stressed that this in no way constitutes Clash of Clans shutting down entirely. Yes, some older devices will no longer support the game, but everybody running iOS 12 or Android 6.0, or any operating system more recent than them, will still be able to play the game just fine. If you're using anything newer than the iPhone 5s or 6, then you should be fine in this new update.

It seems like these Clash of Clans rumours started via an unsubstantiated claim on TikTok. There are some videos out there using doctored, fake tweets from the Clash of Clans account, claiming support will end on January 14, 2022. However, all it takes is a cursory glance at the official Twitter account to see no such thing is happening.

As such, Clash of Clans players have nothing to fear. The game isn't going anywhere. In fact, support is as strong as it's ever been, with a recent update introducing the Clash Games, which is a series of minigames to enjoy in your village. Therefore, you can put your concerns to bed, safe in the knowledge that Clash of Clans will likely continue to be supported for years to come.

Oh, and if the game going down for maintenance on November 23 worried you at all, rest assured that this is a regular occurrence for live games. In this case, Clash of Clans was only taken down for routine maintenance and minor tweaks. So we'll say it one final time: Clash of Clash isn't shutting down in 2022.
