While those willing to mod the Sims have gotten up to some crazy things over the years, the vanilla versions of the games arguably offer just as much in the way of wacky glitches and hilarious occurrences.

Whether it’s a re-creation of Love Island’s most dramatic moments, a werewolf graduation ceremony or a family of Keanu Reeves clones, things just keep getting weirder with each new update.

That said, it seems unlikely that the addition of high schools to The Sims 4 had anything to do with one strange phenomenon encountered recently by a player on Reddit, which saw an innocent wedding end in the wrong kind of tears.

This sim’s big day certainly didn’t go as planned

This unfortunate event is the subject of a thread in the subreddit r/thesims, which began with a post from the shocked player responsible for organising it, the uniquely named user -uniqueusername_, who posted an image of the wedding in progress with several sims lying on the ground and captioned it: “PSA: Don't have a wedding in a heatwave; four guests died from overheating and everyone just threw rice on their bodies.”

The feelings of their fellow Sims stans towards this terrible tragedy were mixed, with user Ares6 saying: “(I) didn't realise this was The Sims sub and gasped at the title”, while ShieldMaiden83 sniggered: “I can't help to laugh, it’s funny, sorry.”

Thankfully, -uniqueusername_ was able to see the funny side of things, returning to say: “It's fine I found it amusing as well” and to explain the backstory behind the wedding, which somehow involves a pregnancy, the writing of several novels and a few references to the Twilight movies.

User TheFanshionista offered an equally in-depth glimpse into the mindset of a Sims wedding planner, saying: “Before a wedding I always go into settings and sit for a moment, wondering what kind of wedding I'm hoping for. Should I turn off ageing? Should I turn off weather-related deaths? Or do I choose chaos?”

Meanwhile, other players shared accounts of their own badly planned marriages, with user acmpnsfal revealing: “I had a wedding where a sim’s parent died during the ceremony and then the whole thing glitched, everyone reset and the wedding had no effect on the game.”

Though, the madness seemingly isn’t limited to couples tying the knot, with user Secret-Sense5668 saying: “I did the opposite; held a party during winter and since I have a pool, people started running around in their swimwear and three sims froze to death” and CorvusBlackthorne recalling: “I had a party for one of my sims' children, complete with a DJ. The DJ was an elder and died during his performance. The birthday boy was depressed for a week.”
