Skyrim modder completely overhauls civil war questline

When they’re not stuck talking to Jarls, destroying all of Nazeem’s furniture or running from shadows, Skyrim’s Dragonborn generally spends a lot of time getting heavily involved in a multitude of conflicts.

One such conflict is Skyrim’s civil war, during which the province’s hero can pick a side and turn the tides of war in favour of either the Imperials or Stormcloaks, while regularly going AWOL from duty to fight the likes of Alduin and the ebony warrior.

While it still receives some attention from most players during playthroughs, the civil war questline can feel a bit flavourless at times, something which a new mod is aiming to rectify.

Are you a supporter of the Empire, or more of a Stormcloak stan?

The mod in question is called ‘Civil War Lines Expansion’ and is the work of prolific modder jayserpa, whose previous work has expanded questlines like that of the College of Winterhold and allowed NPCs to immersively reject the Dragonborn’s marriage proposals.

This time, they’ve decided to revamp the quests surrounding the Imperial/Stormcloak battle royale, with the aim of giving NPCs a bit more personality and having their reactions to events feel more dynamic.

This has been accomplished by giving the troops of both armies around 500 new lines of dialogue to deploy, which cover a wide range of scenarios, as you can see in the video below.

From yelling tailored insults at whoever they’re crossing blades with, to thanking those who heal their grievous wounds and even crying out if one of their friends bites the dust, soldiers should now feel a lot more like real people.

This mod is also perfect for those who like to roleplay by hanging out in one of the many army camps around the map, with the idle chit-chat you might overhear while resting by the campfire also being a bit more varied.

At current the only real issue with it that jayserpa can identify is the possibility of soldiers talking over each other when they’re in confined spaces, which isn’t too much of a problem unless you’re roleplaying some kind of scribe trying to document the events of the war.

It’s also worth staying tuned to the Nexus, as jayserpa is seemingly working on a similar dialogue overhaul for the game’s Thalmor and Forsworn fighters.
