While Skyrim’s NPCs are usually pretty chill individuals, provided that you don’t accidentally kill one of their precious chickens, they can be a little rude at times too.
After all, say you’ve just had a public marriage proposal rejected by an NPC who’d rather date the Skyrim version of John Wick, surely everyone should just go away before you die of embarrassment, right?
Well, thankfully, if you end up in this kind of scenario, the days of having to hide your red face behind a dragon priest mask are finally over, with a new mod giving you a chance to stamp your authority before things get weird.
Oi, what’re you gawping at? Have you never seen Daedric armour before?
The mod in question is called ‘Simple 'Stop Staring' Shout (SSSS) SE’ and is the work of prolific modder CinnaMewRoll, who is infamous for making it possible to marry Viarmo from the Bards College and recruit both Hadvar and Ralof as followers.
Now, though, they’ve turned their attention to the game’s nosy loiterers and busybodies, giving the Dragonborn a new shout that can be used to send those who spend too long staring at them packing at a moment’s notice.
Aiming this fully voiced shot at an offending NPC will cause them to look at anything but you for a short time, unless you engage them in conversation, at which point they’ll have to look at you.
They might also utter a quick ‘hmph’ or ‘whatever you say’ too, giving you audible proof that you’ve properly rattled them.
If you end up feeling bad about shouting at them, don’t worry either, as with version 1.2 of the mod, yelling at them again will reset their head tracking to normal, though you should probably still buy them a sweetroll to say sorry.
On the other hand, if not talking to NPCs gives you no guilty feelings whatsoever, you can also try reize0’s mod ‘No NPC Greetings (Special Edition) - Reduced Range Greetings options available’, which will further limit any unwanted interactions.
So, shut up, look away, and make sure to follow us for more updates on The Elder Scrolls 6 and the wacky world of Skyrim modding.
