Marking their latest major acquisition, Sony has welcomed Bungie into PlayStation Studios. Reportedly costing $3.6 billion, that follows on from Microsoft's surprise acquisition of Activision Blizzard, announced last week at an incredible $68.7 billion USD.
Speaking about the acquisition via Twitter, Hermen Hulst, Head of PlayStation Studios, confirmed:
I’m absolutely thrilled to welcome Bungie to the PlayStation family! Bungie create community-driven games with outstanding technology that are enormous fun to play, and I know that everyone at PlayStation Studios will be excited about what we can share and learn together.

Sony Announce Bungie Acquisition For $3.6 Billion
So, what's the next step for Destiny's future? Speaking on their official site, Bungie suggested plans to remain multiplatform for now, though this could always change. Specifically, they released this statement:
We will continue to independently publish and creatively develop our games. We will continue to drive one, unified Bungie community. Our games will continue to be where our community is, wherever they choose to play.
We're witnessing an aggressive push from Sony, but its a well-timed move that counters the acquisition race we've witnessed these last few years. It's strange to think Halo's original developers are now being integrated into PlayStation, and we'll keep you informed as we learn more.
