If you found yourself getting a jump scare or two from those extreme Oblivion-esque camera zooms when talking to NPCs in Starfield, a new mod provides you with a little more personal space.

The mod in question is named Disable Dialogue Camera created by AntoniX35, and does exactly what it says on the tin. The new Starfield mod removes those first person, space invading exchanges in favour of a more distant approach. It may not be one of the best Starfield mods, but it’s certainly needed.

As with many Starfield mods, or any other game for that matter, this one is hosted over on Nexus Mods, knowing you can trust it, and can be downloaded via this webpage.

With the mod installed, you’re not limited to being static either, you’re able to move around while NPCs are speaking, and select the dialogue options as you would normally. Not only will you be able to speak with character’s more freely, this mod also enables a third person camera option, completely eliminating the previously forced first person, uncomfortable pore-staring view Bethesda games are known for.

In terms of compatibility, the developer states that it should work with any other mods, no conflicts. Additionally, you’re able to get it installed on either Steam or Xbox PC versions so no need to worry which one you picked up.

As for any additional downloads or installs, you will need the Starfield Script Extender (SFSE) mod to get things up and running, but it isn’t too tricky to enable this.

In terms of any game breaking bugs attached to this tweak, there does seem to be an issue with a couple of specific missions where you talk to NPCs via an intercom system. The Vae Victus mission seems to be the one many are encountering the issue on, so keep that in mind if you haven’t completed , or have yet to come across it.

While Starfield is an incredible experience, there are certainly some areas Bethesda could have refined. While modders aren’t very happy with Bethesda’s treatment of them, the modding community is pulling together to create a mod like this, among others such as the StarUI Inventory mod, to allow for the best space adventure possible.

Go out, get some installed, and see if your travels through the Settled Systems could be even more smooth.
