Most of the hardcore Bethesda RPG fans who’ve invested thousands of hours into Skyrim and Fallout 4 can't wait for the release of Starfield.
Some have been passing the time until September by dissecting the details about it revealed in a recent developer Q&A session, or wading into the discourse surrounding its main menu screen.
With its release imminent, we’ve been getting a lot of information, teases, and quotes about the game during Gamescom 2023. The latest interview that’s got fans talking has seen Bethesda’s Head of Publishing Pete Hines discuss a wide range of aspects of Starfield, including what its modding community could accomplish.
Are you looking forward to visiting the planets modders will create in Starfield?
In a Q&A session with Bethesda Germany, Hines reiterated that, post-launch, the studio plans to release the creation kit required for mods. He said: “if you’ve played Elder Scrolls or Fallout, it’s gonna work just like that.”
He continued: “When you think about the kinds of communities that come around Bethesda Game Studios games and putting a tool like [the creation kit] in the hands of people, to go ‘How’d you like to make a planet?’, like, all of that is going to just be off the charts.”
Hines went on to suggest that he’s looking forward to seeing modders bring their own personal touches and stories to the game, adding: “Hell, I already have a list of things I want to mod.”
Naturally, this idea has excited some fans on the Starfield subreddit, where user Dull-Caterpillar3153 has posted a helpful summary of all of the main points Hines touched on in the interview.
“Giving modders the ability to create planets? There’s going to a mission where you land on a magical land after discovering a magic scroll that almost blinds you when you look at it,” suggested user ZoharTheWise, alluding to the much-desired idea of a planet inspired by the world of the Elder Scrolls.
The interview also saw Hines reiterate how much the game has to offer content-wise outside of its main quest, and briefly touch on its new game plus mechanic, as well as share some amusing stories about things he’s done in the game, including accidentally getting sucked into the vacuum of space.
