November 6, 2023: We've updated our Starfield photo mode guide with everything you need to know about capturing screenshots.

As you explore the galaxies, there's a chance you'll want to use the Starfield photo mode to capture some of Starfield's breathtaking environments while visiting the various cities on each planet.

If you watched the entire Starfield Direct, then you would have seen the short snippet of footage we saw that showcased the game's photo mode. For anyone out of the loop, yes, Starfield will feature a completely fleshed-out photo mode. In even more good news, the photo mode will be readily available to use at launch. This means players will have to get their photo skills ready, and there's no better way to prepare than to ensure you understand exactly what's going to be included in Starfield's photo mode.

You can check out the guide below for all of the current information we have about the feature.

How to use the photo mode in Starfield

While the entirety of the photo mode was not revealed during the Starfield Direct, we did get to see quite a lot of the mode's functionality. For starters, players will be able to access it by simply pressing a button on their keyboard or controller. This will completely pause the game and a menu will appear in the bottom-right corner of the screen.

The menu allows players to take a standard photo of their character, the surrounding environment, or whatever their character is currently looking at. Players who choose to take a candid shot of their character can make them do different poses and then, of course, alter the background of the photo.

This is done by swapping between filters, adding effects, and more. Finally, players can even toggle their character's helmet so it's not blocking their face, which could make for a much better shot.

If players want a first-person view, they can simply swap to that point of view in the menu. From here, players can add the same filters and effects to the photo. When players are ready to take any photo, they can toggle the menu off so their image is clear. Then, they can press a button, take the photo, and it will be saved to their account.

The photo mode, from the looks of it, appears to be ready for launch and everything that players would want in the feature. However, we'll have to see if Bethesda can truly have the photo mode ready when Starfield launches on September 6.
