For those who’ve invested thousands of hours into the likes of Skyrim and Fallout 4, the release of Starfield can’t come soon enough.
Regardless of how you feel about the prospects of Bethesda's venture into space or what you think the end goal of its story might be, the idea of being able to delve into a freshly curated game filled with new quests, characters and locations has RPG lovers of all stripes intrigued.
While some of the game’s most hyped would-be players have recently been recommending each other sci-fi films and TV shows to stick on while they wait for it to arrive, a YouTuber who specialises in recreating locations like Skyrim’s Riften in Far Cry 5 has just given them something else to watch.
What do you think of this version of our first glance at Starfield’s world?
The thread containing this reimagined reveal on the Starfield subreddit began with a post from its creator, user mojoswoptops2020, who shared some still shots of their re-creation of the peek at Starfield offered at last June’s Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase, which you can get a great look at in the video below.
As you can see, while the re-creation maybe features a little but too much of Fallout 3’s infamous green hue and lacks any of the original reveal’s NPCs and UI elements, it does a pretty great job of matching the atmosphere of the rocky environments featured in the first two minutes of the Todd Howard-introduced genuine article, which you can watch below for comparison.
“It took around 4 hours to create using Far Cry 5's in-game map editor on Xbox Series X.” explained mojoswoptops2020 in a reply to the post.
The Starfield stans in the thread were pretty big fans by their creation, with user Pronated87 declaring: “Very impressive sir.” and IncidentGullible1187 adding: “Bro it's kinda nuts how close you can get to making faithful representations of other games in the FC5 Map editor.”
Meanwhile, user DandDRide joked: “If you could now just create the rest of the game I think you might be finished before Bethesda release their version.”, prompting mojoswoptops2020 to respond: “Haha, deal! You'll see, you'll all see!”
