Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League still looks like a messy live-service game, but at least fans can play it offline now. Alongside a new trailer during The Game Awards, Rocksteady confirmed that offline play will be coming to the game, ensuring fans can have a hassle-free single-player experience.
Rocksteady announced on their Discord (via VGC) after the trailer came out, informing fans that they will eventually play the game offline. We say “eventually” because the offline play will be implemented via an online patch, which is an incredible irony when it comes to the gaming industry.
“We’re happy to confirm we are planning to add an offline story mode that will give players the option to experience the main campaign without an internet connection,” Rocksteady said in a statement. “We’re planning to provide this update in 2024 and will provide more details when available.”
Although none of us can deny the irony of an offline mode getting added through online means, getting to play Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League without the internet is still a win. Whatever the game’s legacy ends up being, players will have a means of trying this title out in the future without much issue.
Originally, Kill the Justice League was going to require an internet connection from players, even if they wanted to play the single-player. Granted, the shooter is designed with multiplayer in mind, but all single-player modes should have offline access. Even Marvel’s Avengers got this right before it was de-listed, so we’re glad the DC equivalent has finally caught up.
Fans have mixed opinions about Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, especially since it’s in the same universe as the acclaimed Arkham games. Most of the criticism comes from the dull live-service elements, though the overly edgy tone does reek of “please take us seriously.”
