Looking to find out which party member deserves the limelight in Super Mario RPG? You're in the right place. We've been observing the red-capped hero in action to bring you a guide to all Mario abilities in Super Mario RPG.
Like all role-playing games, you'll inevitably end up playing favourites with your party members. Some outperform others easily, while the right gear and situation can make others shine. Levelling everyone up equally is important for boss fights, but focusing all your attention on a character like Mario is still valid.

All Mario abilities in Super Mario RPG
Most of our favourite plumber's abilities aren't available from the get-go. All party members unlock new ways to deal damage or support their allies as you get further in the game, so we've listed all of Mario's abilities and the levels they unlock at below.
- Jump - unlocks at level 1.
- Fireball - unlocks at level 3.
- Super Jump - unlocks at level 6.
- Super Flame - unlocks at level 10.
- Ultra Jump - unlocks at level 14.
- Ultra Flame - unlocks at level 18.
Mario's abilities are all focused on dealing damage, through fire or powerful stomps. You can even boost the damage of these abilities by pressing or mashing a button at the perfect time, so get used to the timing if you want Mario to reach his full potential.
Rounding out your party with healers like Princess Peach is also recommended. In the first few hours of the game, you can use Mallow and the 'HP Rain' ability he gets at the third level to keep the party's health bars full.
That's everything we can tell you about Mario's abilities in Super Mario RPG. Before you go, find out how to fast travel, use powerful action commands, and read our review to see what we thought of the remake as a whole.
