Super Mario RPG offers plenty of playable characters, including the titular Mario himself - but is Luigi in Super Mario RPG?

The Mario brothers have starred in plenty of games together, including a ton of RPGs. Funnily enough, spinoffs like the Mario & Luigi franchise drew heavy inspiration from the original Super Mario RPG on the SNES.

It stands to reason that newer fans wonder if Luigi was also a part of Mario RPG originally. For veterans, the question is - was he added to this remake?

Is Luigi playable in Super Mario RPG?

Sadly for fans of the big walking L, Luigi is not in Super Mario RPG.

The remake aims to faithfully recreate the original as much as possible, thus they didn't add or remove any playable characters maintaining the five party members from the SNES version (Mario, Mallow, Geno, Peach, and Bowser).

Even if he's not playable, that doesn't mean there aren't references to Mario's brother in the game, though.

Super Mario RPG Luigi easter egg

At one point in the game, you'll be able to travel to Star Hill, where fallen wishes from people are seen scattered throughout the area due to the Star Road being destroyed by the Smithy Gang.

One of the wishes you can spot is from Luigi himself. It's easy to spot it belongs to Mario's younger brother since it reads: "I wanna help out my older brother, Mario."
