With the new Battlefield title ‘Hardline’ you’re not in a war-zone anymore. The battlefield is now set in a city and centred around the traditional action of cops vs robbers.
So why did Battlefield undergo this transition? Most likely due to its competition. Call of Duty and Battlefield have been fierce competitors since Battlefield 3. Battlefield 3 allowed players to use tanks and jets, whereas CoD kept the action fast and furious between human teams. However with Battlefield 4 struggling to keep up after a poor launch, EA DICE have decided to go back to the drawing board and make the transition to a new type of story and setting.
So cool article but why mention it? Why you say? Well, that’s because the beta is out now! So while you are currently reading this, people are already playing it! You can download The Battlefield Hardline Beta now on PC, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3 & PlayStation 4.
As I managed to get my hands on the PC beta last year, I have spent quite a bit of time with the closed beta already and to be honest, while I was rather entertained, I came away quite disappointed. In particular, I highly recommend EA DICE do not move towards the racing genre as the car mechanics felt terrible and desperately needed a huge overhaul.
In addition to this, I also came away with mixed feelings surrounding the game’s arsenal and found that while some guns were amazing to wield, others felt decidedly weak.
However, now that I’ve spent some time with the open beta, I’m happy to say that many of my issues have been addressed. All except my issues with the vehicles. I still believe that the handling and general car mechanics need a significant redesign.
On a positive note, the graphics have improved considerably compared to the closed beta on the PC and the game is really starting to shape up nicely in preparation for launch next month. The weapons also feel a lot more solid and comfortable to use, I would personally recommend the M16A1 or UMP-45.
What about the competitive capabilities for this title? I think there are some really good game modes on offer here. ‘Heist’, in particular, is destined to be a fan-favourite.
As you might expect, Heist tasks you with completing a robbery, or as a cop protecting against it. The action is all focused on tactical warfare, for example, how are you going to escape from the cops? Will you use a Zip-line? How are you going to stop the robbers from escaping? Will you make use of Helicopters or snipers?
There are several possibilities for competitive play in Battlefield Hardline and we here at Gfinity will be ready for whatever the game can throw at us!
So, what are you waiting for? Go download the beta now and let us know what you think!
