Ubisoft Reportedly Turning Assassin's Creed Valhalla Expansion Into A Standalone Game

We've known for sometime that Ubisoft is planning Assassin's Creed: Infinity, though this might not be the next entry following 2020's Valhalla. While we're getting a hefty Valhalla expansion with Dawn of Ragnarok next month, another expansion may have been turned into a standalone game.

As reported by Bloomberg (paywalled), this move is being undertaken to help Ubisoft "fill out its thin release schedule." Code-named Rift, that's focus on Basim Ibn Ishaq, who previously appeared in Valhalla as a member of the Hidden Ones.

Detailing this further, journalist Jason Schreier stated:

Ubisoft turned an Assassin's Creed Valhalla expansion into a standalone game that will be out before AC Infinity, sources say. Focused on stealth, code-named Rift, stars Basim. Ubisoft's lineup has struggled due to scandal, attrition, and big delays

Reportedly, that'll be a smaller entry than we've seen in recent times, meaning Rift's unlikely to be a big open-world RPG. At this time, Ubisoft hasn't formally responded to Bloomberg's report, so that remains unconfirmed, but if they announce anything about Rift, we'll keep you informed.
