The launch of Warzone 2 saw millions of players dropping into Al Mazrah for the first time. Call of Duty’s sequel to the hugely popular Warzone grabbed the attention of fans, with Steam recording a peak player count of 488,897 shortly after the battle royale arrived.
With Season Two moving into view, players' frustration continues to grow as issues range from updates rendering suppressors useless to a glitch allowing trucks to drive underwater.
As new problems appear on a regular basis, the numbers continue to dwindle as Steam users look elsewhere to get their fix of battle royale action.
Warzone 2 is in decline
According to SteamCharts, Warzone 2 numbers are on a downward spiral. In the last 30 days, the average player count has dropped to 148,868, a 16% decline on the previous 30-day period.
In addition to a drop in average players, the peak player count has continued to drop each month. November saw the highest peak of nearly half a million Steam users dropping into the action, but in recent weeks the number has fallen to 307,775.

On the other hand, these figures only reflect the number of players using Steam to play the game. Activision doesn’t reveal player numbers for other platforms, meaning there’s a high chance the situation isn’t as bad as the Steam figures suggest. One Warzone fan claims the numbers are a “terrible sample” before adding “more than half [of the player base] are console players.”
Considering the recent figures don’t paint the full picture, the total Warzone 2 player count has a high chance of being in the millions. However, this small sample isn’t great news for the battle royale that’s still in its inaugural season of post-launch content.
