The first iteration of Warzone managed to capture the attention of millions of players as the world went into lockdown. Verdansk and Caldera set the bar for Call of Duty's battle royale offerings, one it's still trying to raise.

With attention moving towards the launch of Season 6 and the potential arrival of a new Halloween event, players continue to express frustrations with a lack of target visibility while attempting to score an elimination.

As Activision prepares to switch the original Warzone servers off, players are sharing memories they've experienced while dropping into the action.

Warzone fans share memories of Caldera

On September 21, 2023, Activision will sunset Warzone Caldera to allow studios to focus on future Call of Duty releases, including Modern Warfare 3. Before the switch off, user DefunctHunk has taken to Reddit to reminisce about the game.

The player said: "Dropping in for a final time. Farewell, WZ1. You gave me some truly outstanding times with the boys while the world was a mess." Other players have responded to share their own memories of cherished times on the Pacific island and in Verdansk. "Opening the Stadium in Verdansk was when Warzone peaked. Players of Rebirth Island and Verdansk, thanks for making Warzone awesome," declared one.

Although there are plenty of good memories from Verdansk, some players in the thread seemingly aren't going to miss Caldera. One asserted: "Caldera was nothing but an epic failure. RIP Verdansk, rot in hell Caldera."

The next chapter of Warzone is set to begin alongside the launch of Modern Warfare 3 later this year. A new arsenal of weaponry is expected to arrive, along with the heavily rumoured Las Almas map. We'll have to wait and see if it can live up to the success of Verdansk.
