After a brief hiatus, the World Series of Warzone (WSOW) is back in action. The tournament is one of several tournaments endorsed by Call of Duty publisher Activision and features the very best players from North America and Europe competing for thousands in prize money.

In addition to some of the best players receiving direct invitations to the main event, the WSOW playlist provides everyone with an opportunity to secure a place in the next stage of the competition.

In a bid to score the highest number of points, some members of the community are using all kinds of controversial tactics to gain the upper hand over the opposition.

Questionable tactics impact WSOW qualifiers

According to professional Warzone player Ethan “Fifakill” Pink, players are using a range of tactics including stream sniping and even joining their friends’ matches and allowing them to score as many kills as possible. In addition, Fifakill claims that those using the tactics are players that often compete in high-stakes tournaments.

“Some of the stuff I’m seeing from this WSOW qualifying is so sad,” says the player who regularly faces off against the best players on the planet. “This sends a terrible message to people genuinely trying to qualify.”

Using a VPN to end up in Warzone matches where the average kill-to-death ratio is nothing new. Players often claim pro players use one but many deny it by proving there’s no VPN active when dropping into matches.

The same tactic has also impacted the North American region. Rather than criticising those using a VPN, AverageJoeWo reminds anyone using the tactic that they will “have to play a customs match against demons that actually shoot back.”

Activision hasn’t commented on the situation but with several high-profile names raising awareness of the issue, there’s every chance some form of intervention will appear in order to guarantee the top 40 squads from the playlist make it through to the next stage of the competition.
