Just like Overwatch, Marvel Rivals is celebrating the Lunar New Year with a limited event, and since the game thrives on cosmetics, they’ve also released a bunch of themed skins based on the holiday.
While some skins are considered to be permanently in the shop, some are only going to be available for a limited time. So, here’s a breakdown of some Spring Festival-themed skins for Marvel Rivals and which characters have them.
Spring Festival-Themed Costumes in Marvel Rivals
Marvel Rivals had been showcasing some skins before the official launch of the Spring Festival event, but the main trio that is the face of the event are Iron Fist, Star-Lord, and Black Widow. The Iron Fist and Black Widow skins come in a bundle in the store, but players can actually earn the Star-Lord skin for free.
The bundle for Iron Fist (Lion’s Gaze) and Black Widow (Lion’s Heartbeat) is called the Dancing Lions Bundle and will cost 2,800 units. Besides the skins, the bundles also come with special cosmetics like MVPs, emotes, and sprays. Fans have also noticed that there’s a special sound effect that plays whenever Iron Fist’s abilities are used in-game.
No MVP or emote comes with unlocking the Lion’s Mane Star-Lord skin, but he does appear in Iron Fist’s MVP. Players also get a nameplate and spray for him.
Other Chinese-Themed Skins
Even before the launch of the Spring Festival event, NetEase had already been dropping some special skins for characters that feel like they’re in the spirit of the Chinese New Year. These have been categorized as Immortal Dragon themed skins.
So far, four characters have Immortal Dragon looks, and they’re Doctor Strange (Sorcerer Immortal), Moon Knight (Lunar General), Mantis (Jade Maiden), and Squirrel Girl (Cheerful Dragoness). Though the Spring Festival skins are limited to the event, it does look like these Immortal Dragon skins are going to be permanently available in the store.
No doubt NetEase is also planning on adding some more skins with that theme, but fans may have to wait until the next Lunar New Year before that can happen again.
What Events Are On the Horizon?
For now, NetEase is focused on the Eternal Night Falls event of Season 1, which is expected to last for three months until the next season.
While nothing official has been announced for Season 2, rumours are going around that the next season is going to be mutant-themed, which means more mutant characters are going to be dropped. Plus, it’s also said that the famous X-Mansion will also be a playable map.
For all the characters in the game, Marvel Rivals has been critiqued for not having enough maps, but hopefully, the devs will remedy this over time as more seasons come in and more storylines are introduced.
With the Lunar New Year ending around February, what are the odds that there are going to be some Valentine-themed skins? Would it be so hard to get a Cupid Hawkeye in this game?
Marvel Rivals’ Spring Festival event is now live. The game is playable for Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC.
