Microsoft will bring two of its most iconic franchises—Age of Mythology: Retold and Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition—to PlayStation 5 in 2025.
The company is breaking down exclusivity barriers to get its games on more platforms beyond just Xbox and PC. If you’ve been waiting for these classic RTS games to land on Sony’s console, the wait is almost over.
First on the list, Age of Mythology: Retold is making its debut on PS5 on March 4. This updated version of the 2002 classic comes with enhanced graphics, smoother gameplay, and a variety of new content, including the much-anticipated Immortal Pillars expansion.
The expansion brings in the Chinese pantheon with new gods, mythological units, and a nine-level campaign based on Chinese mythology.
The release is set to coincide with the official launch of Immortal Pillars so that PlayStation players can hop into the expansion from day one.
Later in spring 2025, Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition will arrive on PS5, bringing the original game, its expansions, and visual improvements. This version offers a smoother experience along with plenty of new content.
Players can expect new civilizations, additional DLC packs, and improvements to Ranked play features. Microsoft has hinted at new DLC and civilizations for the game, though specific details remain under wraps. Wherever you play, be it PS5, Xbox, or PC, you're getting the same game experience with all the updates and content.
This is a big win for players who’ve been requesting cross-platform play for years, as it will bring everyone together in a single global battlefield. This comes after Xbox released a few titles on PS5, like Forza Horizon 5 and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. This is a pretty exciting time for RTS fans.
