Like its greatest inspiration, Call of Duty, Ubisoft’s XDefiant also features a prominent camo grind to allow you to flaunt your mastery of each weapon. While some XDefiant camos are purchased through the in-game store or unlocked via seasonal battle passes, the prestigious XDefiant mastery camos have to be earned through hard work. Luckily, you’re in the right place to find out how to unlock camos in XDefiant.

All XDefiant Mastery Camos and How to Unlock Them
The XDefiant mastery camos and unlock requirements are as follows:
- Gold - Reach weapon level 100
- Silver - Reach weapon level 75
- Bronze - Reach weapon level 50
Only requiring you to level up your weapon, XDefiant’s mastery camos aren’t too hard to unlock, they’re just incredibly time-consuming. Reaching level 100 to unlock the prized Gold camo will take you around 80 hours with the weapon, depending on how skilled you are, though it’s only fitting - they are intended as rewards for mastering a weapon, after all. Thankfully, unlocking Gold is no longer level 300 like it was during a previous playtest.
With the high-level requirements to unlock the mastery camos, you'll have long since finished unlocking new attachments for the weapon. This works out well as it's a great opportunity to create the perfect build for you, letting you then level up faster. While it's great to have access to every attachment, this can also make it more of a slog to keep leveling up as you'll no longer be treated to new unlock incentives - outside of the mastery camos, of course.
Nevertheless, to unlock the mastery camos fast, you need to level up your weapon as fast as possible. To do this, you need to do well in your matches. So, aim to get high-scoring games where you get a lot of kills to maximize your weapon XP gain. Play around with the different XDefiant game modes to find the one that you’re best at. In my experience, completing objective-based modes like Escort is the fastest way to level up weapons as it's easy to get bonus objective score.
It’s worth explaining that weapon skins are separate from mastery camos. You cannot purchase mastery camos or skip the grind in any way. Weapon skins, on the other hand, are more flashy and distinct designs that generally don’t require grinding a specific weapon.
How to Get Weapon Skins in XDefiant
Outside of unlocking mastery camos for each weapon in the XDefiant gun list, new weapon skins can also be earned by leveling up the seasonal battle pass and by purchasing them from the in-game shop. Importantly, these are unique to each weapon and are not universally applicable.
During the XDefiant Preseason, you can unlock the following skins via the unique battle pass:
- MDR - Blaze skin (Legendary)
- ACR - Anarchy skin (Rare)
- M16A4 - Hi-Velocity skin (Rare)
- Vector - Hi-Velocity skin (Rare)
XDefiant Season 1 will add even more camo skins to unlock, so be sure to keep your eyes peeled and get ready for a grind, at least if you’re trying to unlock them right away.
During Twitch Drop promotional periods, you can also get unique weapon skins just by watching any XDefiant Twitch stream. In fact, there are XDefiant Twitch Drops active during the Preason, which include unique new weapon camos.

How to Equip Camos in XDefiant
To customize your weapon in XDefiant and equip camos, select your loadout and the gun you'd like to customize. Then, select the option to edit attachments and skins. In this menu, you will be able to equip both mastery camos and weapon skins.
Entering the weapon customization menu is also how you track your progress towards unlocking each mastery camo. So, be sure to check back with this menu often to see how many more levels you've got left to grind.
