Can you use the Master Sword in Tears of the Kingdom?

If you loved the Master Sword as much as we did, you’ll be happy to hear that it makes its return in Tears of the Kingdom, and is useable at the very start of the game. However, there is a bit of bad news for those who want to go through their entire journey with the weapon. Spoilers ahead.

During the story's first scenes, the Master Sword is damaged and broken. This means you can’t access it after the starting events of the game. It'll remain in Link's inventory, but you can't use it to battle enemies across Hyrule.

How to find the Master Sword in Tears of the Kingdom

Luckily, we’ve already figured out how to get the Master Sword in Tears of the Kingdom. In Breath of the Wild, it was hidden away in the Korok Forest. And while completing the Lost Woods quest in Tears of the Kingdom will help you track down the Master Sword, it isn't required reading.

In Tears of the Kingdom, the Master Sword is found embedded in the head of a Dragon. While we won’t go into the story details, we can tell you how to find and pull the sword out.

The Light Dragon appears over Lunayru Village high up into the sky. If you're struggling to pick out the differences between the dragons sliding around the skies above Hyrule, you can point the Purah Camera at one to learn which they are. You're looking for the Light Dragon.

Once you've spotting the serpent, it's time to fly. The easiest way is to get to the nearest Skyview Tower. This should give you enough lift to glide to the dragon.

Once you’re on top of the Dragon, you just need to pull out the Master Sword.
