Over the years, Call of Duty's Zombies mode has proven hugely popular with those slaying endless waves of undead opposition.
Despite a change of direction in Vanguard, players continue to play older versions of the mode as attention turns towards the launch of Modern Warfare 2.
Infinity Ward isn't well-known for its Zombies modes but it hasn't stopped the developer from including the mode in previous titles. As the developer continues to reveal more information on the campaign and multiplayer, some fans are beginning to wonder if Modern Warfare 2 Zombies is in the works.
No Modern Warfare 2 Zombies Mode
Following a media event that took place prior to the worldwide reveal of Modern Warfare 2, Infinity Ward says Zombies won't appear as the co-op mode within the game.
This is disappointing news for Zombies fans but there's a chance something new is on the horizon.
A Treyarch developer says the studio has "big plans" for future Zombies experiences amid rumours of a second Zombies Chronicles title and the possibility of Zombies receiving its own standalone game.
Recent iterations of Zombies have missed the mark, with Vanguard Zombies proving extremely unpopular despite Treyarch's best efforts to revive the mode with the return of round-based action in Season 4.
Instead of Zombies, Infinity Ward is working on a new Special Ops mode for players wanting to get their fix of co-op action. So, if you want to slay some undead opposition when Modern Warfare 2 launches, you'll have to stick with Vanguard or an older game.
Considering Treyarch's big plans, there's every chance we hear more details on the future of Zombies at a later date.
