Call of Duty’s transition to seasonal updates has been a mixed bag with excellent high points marred by damaging lows that often frustrate the millions of Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone players dropping into the action.

Season 3 of the 2024 cycle is coming to a close and with attention turning towards the launch of Season 4, players are eagerly anticipating what Sledgehammer Games and Raven Software have in store before the COD 2024 hype train leaves the station. Just before Black Ops 6 overshadows any future seasonal updates for MW3 and the latest iteration of the battle royale, Modern Warfare 3 Season 4 appears to be a perfect jab of adrenaline for the long-running shooter.

Recent leaks surrounding MW3 Season 4 reveal not just another injection of fresh content, but a nostalgic trip through memory lane with the return of popular iconic weapons from CoD’s storied history. Alongside more additions, Season 4 is shaping up to be the best update this year.

The Introduction of classic weapons from previous Call of Duty titles into the current arsenal is expected to play a key role in the success of Season 4 for Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone. If rumours are to be believed, the Kar98k marksman rifle, STG44 assault rifle, and SPAS-12 shotgun are on their way back.

The Kar98k dominated the Verdansk era of Warzone thanks to its exceptional damage output combined with mobility very few weapons could contend with. For those who prefer close-quarters combat, the reappearance of the SPAS-12 is excellent news, too. First appearing in 2009’s Modern Warfare 2, the shotgun decimated anyone within a few metres meaning it could impact our Warzone weapon tier list almost immediately. Last and by no means least is the STG44 which is one of the most common assault rifles in the entirety of Call of Duty. Having appeared in every World War 2 CoD in addition to Call of Duty 4, Black Ops, Black Ops 2, and Advanced Warfare to name a few, its inclusion isn’t surprising even though it’s never set the meta alight.

While a lot of the focus will be on the arrival of some of the strongest weapons ever seen in Call of Duty, Season 4 will also contain another wave of collaborations with the world of TV, movies, and other video game franchises. Files within Modern Warfare 3 have confirmed limited-time events with Gundam and Fallout are due in Season 4 alongside a crossover with the 2024’s The Crow. Crossovers have been a highlight of the MW3 cycle, with appearances from The Boys and Warhammer 40K proving popular among players. While the abundance of crossover skins have proven controversial, they’re exceptionally popular.

In addition to the crossovers, Season 4 is bound to play a role in the reveal of 2024’s annual Call of Duty release. Heavily rumoured to be Black Ops 6, not Black Ops Gulf War, Treyarch’s hotly-anticipated title is expected to be showcased in the form of an in-game event before more details are revealed in early June following the Xbox Game Showcase. Dataminers have already found evidence of Black Ops’ iconic Sally handgun in MW3 files, leading to an awesome CoD 2024 promotion.

With plenty of new content also expected alongside the hit of nostalgia and the first look at a brand-new Call of Duty, there’s every chance Season 4 of Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone manages to go beyond the call and deliver a wealth of fresh features across the board. Sledgehammer Games has set the bar high with post-launch content, and looks to continue its hot streak into the second half of 2024.
