Season 4 of Warzone is in the closing stages and a new render has appeared in the game files that may have revealed a brand-new map for Season 5.
A new map has been teased for months and with the Verdansk bunkers containing nuclear weapons, a potential revamp is certainly on the cards either before or at the beginning of the new season.
Here’s what we know about the new Warzone map so far.
The New Image
First discovered by ModernWarzone, this new render shows new skyscrapers in the centre of a heavily built-up city which doesn’t look like Downtown in Verdansk.
The building on the left heavily resembles the Gherkin building in London, potentially implying that Warzone is heading to Price’s neck of the woods.
Previous teasers have suggested that Warzone is moving to Urzikstan, implying that a new map set in the desert was on the cards but judging from this latest discovery, a desert map may well have been put on the back burner.
Desert or City?
There are several advantages and disadvantages of setting a battle royale map in a desert and a city.
The desert offers vast open spaces, perfect for plenty of sniper action but the lack of built-up areas could mean limited opportunities for close-quarters engagements.
The city would be the perfect setting for close-quarters fights and combined with access to the rooftops of skyscrapers, ideal lines of sight across the skyline.
Although the city produces plenty of action at close range, plenty of corners for players to hide in is often annoying for those that love to play aggressively.
With Downtown already present in the game, with a very negative stigma attached to it, it would be a surprise to see a full city-based map unless it was scaled down in size.
A City Warzone Map: Potential Locations
If this new screenshot does confirm Warzone is heading into the city, it opens up the possibility of several classic maps and maps from Modern Warfare being different points of interest throughout the map.
Here are some of the maps that we think could make an appearance.
- Shipment
- Hackney Yard
- Bloc
- Arkaden
- Resistance
- Piccadilly
- Underground
- Hardhat
These are just a few maps that would fit perfectly into a Warzone map set in the city. As for any official confirmation regarding a new map, Infinity Ward has yet to reveal any information as we head ever-closer to the end of Season 4 and the beginning of Season 5.
