With Fortnite OG launching this coming December 6, Marvel Rivals is undoubtedly in for a wild launch. Releasing on the same day as Fortnite Chapter 1, Marvel Rivals must compete with Epic Games to prove it's the better game.
Fortnite OG is a new, dedicated mode for Fortnite that cycles through the seasons in Chapter 1. It'll also have its own Season Pass, obtainable through the Fortnite Crew subscription.
To many Fortnite fans, this is the perfect move for their beloved game. Many fans love Chapter 1 and all its seasons, with many rare Fortnite skins only exclusive to the events in Chapter 1.
Whether these skins will return is still unconfirmed. Still, those with the Renegade Raider skin will have some nostalgia overload once they jump back into Fortnite's original map from Chapter 1.

On the other hand, Marvel Rivals is a newcomer to the third-person shooter video game genre and will launch on the same day as Fortnite OG. This is a bold move, considering that its demographic may be similar to Overwatch and Fortnite's.
While each game has different game modes, with Marvel Rivals focusing more on 6v6 PvP, it is still arguably a dauntless move from Disney to give a go signal for the launch of Marvel Rivals on the same day.
Yes, Marvel may have a cast of ever-popular superheroes, but they may have underestimated the power of the Fortnite crowd.
The recent Marvel's Avengers didn't do well, even with its live-service features. It had a nice start, just like any Marvel movie, but it went flop with its loot system and repetitive endgame. Eventually, it faced its grim end: delisted from multiple digital storefronts.
Marvel Rivals has some big shoes to fill, considering: 1) it’s a Marvel game, 2) it directly competes with Overwatch as a competitive shooter, and 3) it’s a free-to-play game.
Free-to-play games tend to have a specific business model, which often involves season passes, like Fortnite's. Additionally, Marvel Rivals is a competitive team game with several different characters, making hero balancing more challenging than in Fortnite.
Marvel Rivals also caused a recent controversy when it sent out contracts to streamers barring any negative review of the game. These contracts prevent streamers and content creators from fairly criticizing the game and contribute to the many reasons why 2024 has slowly become a weak year in gaming.
Whether Disney is all-in with their brave launch on December 6 is another matter; Marvel Rivals will have to lose some of its shooter demographics to Fortnite OG for a few weeks.
