Earlier this month, Insomniac Games was subject to a major cyberattack. The studio behind Spider-Man 2 and Sunset Overdrive had refrained from making a statement in the wake of the leaks, but now they've issued an update in response to the attack.
Posted to X, formerly Twitter, Insomniac Games has revealed how "saddened and angered" the dev team felt following the leaks, highlighting the "emotional toll" it had taken on them. Plus, the studio also detailed how the team has spent the last several days picking up the pieces, trying to work out what data had been affected by the hack.
It should come as no surprise that Insomniac is still dealing with the consequences of the leaks internally, especially given the sheer volume of data that was stolen. The fallout from the leak has been huge, revealing Insomniac's release timetable for the next 12 years, as well as exposing Sony's future plans for PS Plus.
More importantly, the leaked data also included the personal information of Insomniac employees, both past and present, which has been "extremely distressing" for the team at Insomniac.
Within their statement, Insomniac also extended their gratitude to the "outpouring of compassion and unwavering support" shown to them by fans following the hack, and offered their thanks for players' "ongoing support during this challenging time".
Additionally, Insomniac specifically addressed the leaks surrounding Marvel's Wolverine, which is currently in development for the PS5, stating that development "continues as planned". We reported earlier today that a pre-release build of Marvel's Wolverine had been circulating online before being subject to a DMCA takedown, and Insomniac's statement seems to allude to this, stating that the game will "no doubt greatly evolve throughout development, as do all our plans".
This also suggests that the details regarding Insomniac's future releases are far from set in stone. While the leaked timetable may well be Insomniac's plan for now, 12 years is a long time in game development. Marvel themselves are known for announcing their future projects many years in advance, many of which never even make it into development. Therefore, there's no guarantee that all of the leaked titles will come to fruition.
Despite the challenges and consequences that have arisen from the cyberattack, Insomniac Games ultimately remains undeterred. "Like Logan...Insomniac is resilient," stated the studio, as it vows to reveal more official information on Marvel's Wolverine "when the time is right."
